I think I understood everything about how to start translating. I think I made only one minor mistake but thanks to you I know what it is. I started translating, but I will continue to work on it in short bursts, when I get the time. I'm awfully busy but I will do my best. Everyone deserves a Romanian translation for this book. Heh, you do. :)

Hello, we have started translating A Byte of Python in Greek, and we will be wikifying the translation, and posting it here soon.

Will Byte of Vim remain free?

Hello, Swaroop. Thank you for your wonderful work on Byte of Vim. 48 hours ago I knew nothing about using Vim and now I can easily write using it (long way to go, but I did something!).

I'm planning to translate this book to my native language, because I think there is no books in Arabic about Vim and this one is very excellent as a start.

As I understood, any contribution to this book (including the translations) should be assigned to you. In fact, there is no problem about that but it's very important to ensure that this book will remain free under a copylefted (ShareAlike) license. (e.g. CC-BY-SA and GFDL). Is this guaranteed?

Thank you again!--OsamaK 11:23, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi Osama,

Actually, contribution to the English edition must be assigned to me. But contributions in other languages shall be copyrighted by the respective volunteers. So, the Arabic edition will be copyrighted by you.

And yes, the book will always be available under a Creative Commons license.

Notes:Copyrights says a different thing so does the footer. (everything in this wiki is copyrighted by Swaroop). Please note that per CC-BY-SA everybody is free to improve the book without assigning their contributions to anybody. (Except the fact that you're free to put such condition for contributions on your own wiki to be hosted there) you may want to make this clear in the "License" section. Thank you again!--OsamaK 18:55, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, just one more thing. "a Creative Commons license" means "a CC-BY-SA license", right?--OsamaK 19:04, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
I have updated Notes:Copyrights regarding the same. I hope this makes it clear. Thanks for bringing this up.
Yes, when I mean a "Creative Commons license", I mean at least "CC-BY-SA". However, just to make it really clear, I may not choose the same license for other new books, if any. But these current books (Python, Vim) will always be under the current license, along with the copyright restriction for the English editions of any content on this wiki. -- Swaroop 09:59, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Thank you! BTW, Vim has some problems with right-to-left language (such as Arabic). I'll look for solution before starting because it's no use of translating a documentation to a language which isn't supported.--OsamaK 11:35, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
