Swaroop, was just browsing through the net for 'IT terminologies in Kannada' when I found this page. If you are aware of the Kannada Encyclopedia of Information Technology that the Mysore University is going to come out with, contribute to that if possible.

@V.V: Its just that Swaroop has quoted him wrong here. The Professor only tried to say that nothing of that sort should happen on Kannada Wikipedia.

I am not sure whether you misquoted the Professor or not. But, the Professor as quoted here is not correct. It is the Wikipedia which got the facts incorrect. And it definitely did not take a decade to get it corrected.

This episode was covered quite extensively by the US media.

If you got this wrong that’s understandable. But, if the good Professor got it wrong, I have to wonder whether this was intentional or not.

@Nadig : Yep, I guess the talks were a little too fast paced for people who are not used to using even the control panel :-), but people did write down stuff, and I sure hope more common people do see the value in a Kannada Wikipedia.

@Madhooo : According to the notes I wrote down, you have to have the Win2K CD to be able to install Unicode support. I don’t know if there’s a way without the CD. More details at http://sampada.net/fonthelp#windows_2000

Swaroop, since u attended this meet, I think it would be appropriate to ask you this question.

How do blog in kannada? I have win 2000. I have installed baraha. I am able to write in kannada using baraha in a file. But I am not able to read any of the kannada websites as they appear like chinese.:) I have looked into several web sites about this. One option is to insert teh Win 2K cd and install the language. But it is not feasible for me coz I dont have the win 2k cd. Any solution?

Thanks for the nice write-up! I missed some part of URA’s speech and most of Prof. G V’s speech in all the uproar of arrangement. Your write-up covered them up for me

Yeah, most of us felt that the latter talks went too technical, as well. Most of it owing to lack of preparation - many of us had been awfully busy even until the last day before the event. I agree that we could’ve made it more simpler for the non-technical audience.

And maybe it was a bad idea to include the talk about Wiki technology. But someday they’ll have to hear those words, anyway
