Car PC, anyone?

From The Hindu:

In a bid to take computers to the rural communities in India, global chip major Intel unveiled on Wednesday a new Ruggedised Personal Computer platform designed to withstand adverse weather conditions including heat, dust and humidity and run on alternate power sources, including the car battery.

    Think of following.

A laptop powered by solar batteries and internet access via satellite.

    Does it seem so difficult.

  2. Swaroop Says:

@Kanti : If it is easy, somebody should have already done it before. Has it been done?

Actually, PCs(Not a notebook btw) running from batteries will be good for the cities too. Lot of power is lost in Ac->DC->AC conversions in UPS systems. A pluggable DC power system for the PC would be the best solution for our country. Hope the technology for rural India can bring about some changes.

  4. Swaroop Says:

@Deepak : How would you charge these batteries though?
